IoT is a chain, not a device
Connected projects fail when they stop at hardware. The sequence is short enough to say in one line, and long enough to staff.
The sequence
Device, sensor, connectivity, edge, cloud, data, analytics, dashboard, automation. Skip a link and the previous one becomes a gadget.
Edge computing belongs in the chain when the site cannot wait for the cloud or should not ship raw streams.
The value
Operators need visibility, fewer wasted visits, and a maintenance habit based on state rather than a calendar. Those are the outcomes worth designing for.
After install
Monitoring, analytics, and device care are monthly work. A project plan that ends at commissioning has not priced the system.
